JOSHUA ROBERTS

Joshua Roberts
Joshua Roberts is undoubtedly one of the most exciting and energetic young DJ’s on the circuit. Soon after learning to mix at just 11 years of age, he was already being recognized for both his mixing ability and his capability to move the crowd. Having already graced the top radio station in his region (Kiss) with his presence at the age of 15, he then became a national champion two years later at just 17, winning the BBC Radio 1 & UKCC National Young DJ Search; a nationwide competition for 14 – 17 year olds to showcase their mixing talents. Following a summer touring the UK, he was invited to open proceedings at Radio 1’s One Big Weekend in Birmingham. Joshua did what he does best and duly delivered an unforgettable performance to over 4,000 party go-ers, setting the mood for some of the biggest names in the dance music industry.

Already at 22 years of age Josh has played across the globe, making him one of the most well traveled DJ’s for his age. He has also appeared on BBC1, MTV Dance and been featured in DJ Mag. After spending the summer of 2007 rocking some of the coolest parties at the Ministry of Sound beach club & the world’s first Hed Kandi Beach bar out in the Red Sea, he joined forces with both brands and rocked many a dance floor as a resident for some of their top UK & worldwide dates. “This was a great opportunity to take my sound & style of play to a worldwide audience” beams Josh. He also looks forward to continuing his residency with BBC Radio 1 superstars ‘The Cut up boys’, keeping their nationwide tour well and truly rocking!

Josh is renowned for his fresh and creative style of play, and best describes his style as “Funky, Uplifting, Dirty and Delightful” His energetic and charismatic presence behind the decks is something which has been noticed across the board, not to mention his unpredictable, exciting approach to mixing and phenomenal technical ability. “I love being creative with my tunes. Mixing, cutting and scratching my way through my sets whilst getting the crowd hyped up to the max”, something which has gained him major recognition and earned him bookings alongside the likes of Tiesto, David Guetta, Fatboy Slim, Judge Jules, Brandon Block, Bodyrox, Calvin Harris, Adam Sheridan & more!

2008 saw Josh solidify his standing as one of the best newcomers to the scene, spending the majority of the summer jetting back and forth to the ‘White Isle’ Ibiza to rock some of the biggest and best parties the Island has to offer! Having stunned the masses at superclubs such as Eden, El Divino and Es Paradis he was rightfully rewarded a weekly residency at Play2 in San Antonio, along with other regular slots at Ibiza Rocks and numerous boat parties across the Island. By the end of the season, Wednesday nights at Play2 were a guaranteed road block, with Josh using his incredible mixing, intertwined with impeccable cutting and scratching to mastermind an unrivaled atmosphere week in week out!

This year he’s been booked to play parties out in South Africa, Belgium, Mauritius, Egypt & Bahrain not to mention sets at world famous venues in Ibiza and a residency for the 2011 season on the white isle.

WIZARD SLEEVE

Wizard Sleeve, Mike Beatz
Wizard Sleeve are rappers Lex One & Mike Beatz who originally met in Miami and now live between the UK, Florida & New York. For the past year, they have been travelling the world, championing their blend of hip hop, dance and electro along with their love of eclectic sampling and often playfully outrageous lyrics.
Wizard Sleeve officially broke onto the UK scene in 2009 after teaming up with breaks super group Aquasky and releasing in August 2009, the huge underground anthem “Me Plus You” produced by Aquasky aka Black Noise.

It wasn’t long before the track caught the ear of Dutch DJ and producer, Sidney Samson who heard a bootleg of his club smash “Riverside” using the hooky verse and catchy melody of the Wizard Sleeve rap. Lex & Mike then agreed to re-record for the official release of a new version called, “Riverside – Let’s Go” which featured the guys in full. Released via Ministry Of Sound at the beginning of 2010, the record stormed national and regional radio and was A listed on Radio 1, 7 weeks upfront of release whilst also becoming a huge You Tube hit : it has since reached just over 2 million views of the official video featuring Wizard Sleeve. It also remained in the UK Official charts for over 11 weeks and reached no 2 at it’s highest and has sold in excess of 350,000 records.

During the success of the record and for the past 6 months, the guys have been touring the UK extensively, having clocked up over 74 shows and overwhelming crowds and promoters alike with their energy fuelled live performances. It’s no surprise however, that their live shows are a rollercoaster of energy and entertainment as previously under their solo guises of Lex One & Mike Beatz, they’ve rocked stages with the likes of Wu Tang, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Nas, KRS One, Kool Keith and Method Man.
Whilst touring the UK, they’ve also been busy writing for their 1st artist album aswell as working on collabs with other artists and the past few months has seen them hook up in the studio with the likes of Mason, Nick Thayer & N’Fa, Cutfather, Ant Miles (Ram Records guru), Calvertron, Black Noise, Jodie Connor & Dawood to work on new material.

They are also now due to release their next solo record “Get Down Tonight” on Southern Fried Records, which samples the no 13 US 1990’s hit, Skee- lo’s “I Wish” and re-ignites the successful partnership of Black Noise and Wizard Sleeve. The record is a true summer anthem and the promotional campaign will be hitting in August and sees the tune rolled out in full to all holiday destinations and UK clubs, with a strong remix package. Also having just recently signed to major live bookings agency, Primary Talent International which represents the likes of Daft Punk, Mark Ronson, Dizzee Rascal, Roots Manuva, Basement Jaxx & Chiddy Bang, the boys are looking forward to getting back on the road again in the UK and Europe in 2011.

MICKY SLIM

Micky Slim
As one of the most charismatic individuals to smash his way onto the house music scene in recent years, Micky Slim is the Birmingham-bred bad boy that has arrived and is ready to take over. With an outstanding production portfolio that has had a phenomenal success rate of being heard on BBC Radio1, an international residency that gives Micky global exposure, and a few helping hands (more later), its clear that Micky is not just one of the UKs finest up-and-coming talents, he is getting recognition the world over.

The wheels however properly turned when Mickys quickly growing fan base came to the attention of Godskitchen promoter Mark Gillespie. Gillespie was quick to install Micky as Godskitchen Electric resident, a very special moment for Micky especially considering he had been a regular at the club from its beginning at the Sanctuary and had attended every one of Godskitchens colossal Global Gathering festivals. Mickys Gods residency has seen him play regularly to a rapturous home crowd alongside the likes of Erick Morillo, Chris Lake, Richard Dinsdale, James Zabiela and Fergie, as well as debut at Global. Almost 50,000 people converged on the festival at Long Manston Airfield near Stratford Upon Avon with Micky playing in the same arena as Deep Dish, Steve Lawler and Tiesto. And with James Zabiela stuck in traffic, the BBC gave Micky the opportunity of a lifetime by recording his set for broadcast on the Essential Mix. Micky duly responded by delivering 45 minutes full of filthy acid, wonky electro and twisted tech house to a worldwide audience. This is without doubt the finest moment in Mickys career to date. Such exposure has resulted in major interest from throughout the UK and abroad -- deserved credit for such a memorable performance.

MARCO LYS

Marco Lys
If you’ve been anywhere near an electronic music event in the past few years, the likelihood is that at least one point during the evening you will have been moving to the hypnotic sounds of Marco Lys.

Born and raised in Italy’s legendary Venice, Marco Lys’s reputation has been forged on endless days in the studio perfecting his unique sound of electro tinged house, and demand for his sound has continued to grow with every piece of production that he works his magic on.

Lys’s career is testament to those who feel that things come too easy for the modern day electronic music producer, but to all those in the industry who have been involved with his work, none are surprised at his success, and this was demonstrated in 1990 when Marco was invited to supply the guest mix his native Radio Luna.

The mix earned praise from far and wide, and Luna immediately established Lys as their weekly resident on the show. Spinning at various private parties and some of the most prestigious clubs in North Italy and Austria, the young dj was soon drawn into the world of producing and after a year of experimenting with different sound, he released his first of many tracks.

Twenty years later and he is firmly established as one of the most respected producers in his genre, with an endless flow of superlative productions as 'Your Love', 'Speechless', 'la Tromba' and remix projects for the industry’s finest imprints.

His work on labels that include Positiva, Rising Music, Nebula, Oxyd, Audio Therapy, Baroque, Rise and Direction have gained support from the cream of the world’s elite, whilst collaborations with Sam Paganini, Michael Gray, Filo & Peri, Matt Darey, Danny Kirsch, My Digital Enemy and Chris Lake amongst others show his diversity and ability to bend his sound to suit.

On the remix tip, Marco continues to push the boundaries, and with various original projects now complete and due for release over the coming months, Marco Lys is now firmly back on the remix scene, with projects for some of the biggest labels on the planet.

If all this wasn’t enough, Marco Lys continues to guest on the radio. He is now the main force behind Italy’s hottest radio program ‘ In Da Klubb’ that goes out every Friday and Saturday night on the 105 Network, and allows him to showcase his latest sounds to the nation.

2010 has seen Marco playing on some of the most important clubs in Europe as The Space in Leeds, Base Club in Krakow, Plan B in London and Amnesia in Ibiza to name a few.

It’s easy to see why Marco Lys is the name on the lips of label heads and top producers across the globe.

THE BULGARIAN

The Bulgarian
The Bulgarian is one of those unique talents who incorporates different styles of music into his productions and he carries this over into electrifying DJ sets.

As the name suggests, he hails from Bulgaria but grew up in Cape Town, South Africa and he takes influences from both the east and west.

Every Bulgarian track is unique and fresh from the last and distinctive to him, but what is common in all of them is a big bass and plenty of groove to get people moving.

He began producing and DJing in very difficult surroundings – in South Africa, in 1997, he had a measly Pentium 166mmx with only 32MB of ram, no Internet and a severe difficulty of getting his hands on any second hand kit to make beats on.

But despite being cut off from much of the world scene, he started to get serious about music. He was into industrial metal at the time and as a result was making that kind of sound before getting into big beat and IDM which then led him to drum and bass and thus to the DJ booth.

Since then he has drifted into house and techno music and made his name. The Bulgarian deconstructs conventional house, while sparring with elements of glitch, sleaze and tech to remaster the beats in his own personal style.

After a few highly successful releases and partnerships with other labels and producers, his unconventional bump and thump sound landed him a spot as one of the original Potty Mouth Music artists where he still resides today.

He opened his own music and recording studio in 2003 and later set up his label FETA with Vlad Sokolov for dirty, bouncy, experimental house after spending six months living with him and 3 more talented producers under the same roof in London at the tail end of 2007.

He continues to turn out belters and has aspirations to take his songs on the road with a full electronic band performance, though whatever the future does bring for him, it is sure to be bright and thumping for The Bulgarian.

THE LOOSE CANNONS

The Loose Cannons, Kiss FM
Irrepressibly discerning peddlers of dirt disco & pioneers of Cludge.

From the casino rooftops of Vegas to the New Year’s crowds of the Australian Festivals The Loose Cannons have come a long, long way from their humble beginnings in a bedsit in South London, to being amongst the UK’s most critically, media and industry acclaimed Artists, DJ/Producers and Radio Broadcasters.

The Don-Daddas of DJ Duo-dom, Kaiser Saucy & Lord Fader have rocked the party across the world, from E4 Skins houseparties across the UK to the Australian Music Awards in Sydney, aboard Armani’s yacht in Monte Carlo, to student parties & the CMJ in NYC; narrowly avoiding arrest in Dubai, performing the World's highest stage-dive (in the Alps) via an uber-art exhibition in Singapore, Manumission in Ibiza, and Exit in Serbia…. even Keith-Prodigy’s wedding! As well as hitting all the main UK festivals, including Glastonbury, V, Lovebox and Glade, etc, etc. Radio1’s Rob Da Bank described the LCs as “undoubtedly the finest party djs this side of Mars and our Bestival after party DJs of choice.” They've performed there every year since 2005.

2010 saw the boys do remixes for Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Timbaland, Katie Perry, Brandon Flowers, Alicia Keys and the Sugababes, as well as working on their own new studio album and live show (now signed to MTV's own Hype label in the States) & secretly branching out into the mainstream by writing & producing brand new, super-hot Girlband "Vanquish" whose debut album will drop in Autumn of 2011.

In the UK, their show on world-famous dance music radio station Kiss (www.totalkiss.com/loosecannons) won a Specialist Award at the prestigious Sony Radio Awards in it’s 1st year on air and has subsequently tripled it’s audience share. They are now tastemakers the industry and public look to for the newest in all things house-music and in May 2011 their keen ear for the Underground got them a second nod from the broadcasting community when the show was nominated for an International Radio Festival "On-Air" Award. The boys can proudly claim to be the first to discover & champion many new artists, including Herve, Kissy Sell Out, Sinden, Space Cowboy, Boy-8 Bit, Does it Offend You Yeah, Foamo… and many more. Other heavy-hitters passing through flexing their Cred-entials include MSTRKRFT, Switch, Groove Armada, M.I.A., Timo Maas, Freestylers, CSS, Doorly, Speakerjunk, Tom Middleton, Sinichi Osawa, Riva Starr, … to name but a few.

NICK BRIDGES

Nick Bridges, Bodyrox
Nick Bridges is widely regarded as one of the most technically-gifted DJs in the UK and one half of chart-topping production duo Bodyrox: a DJ/producer who, in 2011, is currently enjoying his most successful year to date.

In partnership with Jon Pearn under the Bodyrox alias, Nick produced one of the ‘biggest hits in electronic dance music’ [Pete Tong] in 2006 in the form of ‘Yeah Yeah’; a massive electro workout which took the WMC by storm picking up early support from Pete Tong, Judge Jules, Fergie, Dave Pearce, Zane Lowe, Jo Whiley, Annie Mac, Edith Bowman, Annie Nightingale, Sarah Cox and Trophy Twins on BBC Radio One alone and went on to ‘fill every record box under the sun’ [Pete Tong].

Supplemented by a unique vocal from Luciana, a killer remix package and a highly acclaimed controversial video, ‘Yeah Yeah’ became the huge international club anthem which kick started the global ‘Nu Rave’ phenomenon. On its official release in October 2006, ‘Yeah Yeah’ debuted at 2 in the UK Top 40 and remained in the Top 10 for several weeks and is still heavily supported on national radio. [Radio One Playlist No.1, Cool Cuts No.1, Shazam Tag Chart No.1, Beatport Download Chart No.1, The Box Playlist No.1].

In 2007, riding a wave of massive success, Bodyrox were nominated for an Ivor Novello - one of the music industries most prestigious awards; and went on to top both Music Week’s Cool Cuts and the DMC Buzz Chart again with their next three singles, ‘Sound of Eden’ [Music Week Upfront Club Chart No.1, Music Week Pop Tip Chart No.2, DMC Club Chart No.1, DMC Mainstream No.1, Galaxy Chart Show on MTV Dance No.1], ‘What Planet You On’ [BBC Radio One Dance Singles Chart No.1] and 'Brave New World' receiving recognition at the International Dance Music Awards and MTV’s Video Music Awards.

Recently tagged a ‘Supergroup’ by Pete Tong during their debut on Radio One’s Essential Mix, Bodyrox are currently one of the top three most viewed ‘electro bands’ in the World with over 1.7 million views on Myspace alone.

While the global success of ‘Yeah Yeah’ has seen Nick’s profile rise exponentially, it must be recognized that he’s been a mainstay on the international DJ scene for many years and is widely regarded as one of the most technically gifted young DJ’s in the World - with previous residencies at Fabric London [DJ Magazines No.1 Club in the World] for DTPM, Amnesia Ibiza for Cream/Glasshouse and at Ministry of Sound London – a residency that saw Nick mix five compilations throughout a long-standing association with the brand that continues today.

Fast forward to 2011, having recently announced details of the highly anticipated Bodyrox album and exciting new live show, Nick is still at the top of his game with a number of solo productions widely supported by some of the biggest names in the industry.

HOXTON WHORES

Hoxton Whores
100+ tracks releases under aliases: The Hoxtons, Stereo Scum, Disco Darlings and Fun Da Mentalists

The Hoxton Whores are the UK’s electronic-musical equivalent to the Union Jack. Having toured extensively across all the major continents and far corners beyond, they unequivocally boast an energetic, positive and responsive progressive dance sound, which has seen them collaborate and remix an A-Z of the world’s best artists including the likes of Deep Dish, Robbie Rivera, Faithless, Moloko, Danny Howells, Bass Kleph, Celeda, Tocadisco plus many many more. Over the past decade they’ve owned the Beatport & download charts whilst embarking on a round trip to stamp the world with their WhoreHouse sound rocking dancefloors worldwide with their consistent and massive studio output.

2010 is showing to be one of the Hoxtons biggest and busiest years yet with the re-launch of WhoreHouse Recordings, ‘a label originally set up in 2004 to provide us with an avenue to sell our own productions, as well as allowing us to license other artist’s music that they thought fitted well with their own sound’ (HW). The label has recently gone from strength to strength, not only with numerous top 10 hits on digital download sites such as Beatport, DJ Download, Traxsource and Xpressbeats, but by also providing a stepping stone for the Hoxtons to license tracks on to major labels such as MOS, Universal, Azuli, Toolroom, We Play, Hed Kandi and Manifesto to name a few. In the coming months they have some very strong releases coming up including tracks from Paul Harris, Stafford Brothers, Angie Brown, Micky Slim, Seany B and the Rising High Collective.

A relentless DJ schedule is seeing Hoxton Whores tours reach Brazil, Argentina, Canada, Australia, Asia, Dubai, South Africa and every major city in between with big Hoxton releases lined up on Missspelt/Toolroom, Subliminal, Ministry of Sound, CR2, Stealth, Phonetic, We Play and more.. 2010 sees the Hoxtons really take it up a level release wise with some mammoth projects in the pipeline stirring interest from majors.

A hugely successful 2009 saw the Hoxtons ‘Devil Toy’ project hit Number One on the Beatport & DJ Download charts simultaneously keeping at the top spot during Miami WMC and Top 15 again at the end of the year in the Beatport Bestsellers. With Beatport crediting as a, “proven hit essential for all electronic DJs and fans” the track was promptly signed to Toolroom/Missspelt licensed to a huge amount of compilations. The project is now lined up for a major release this year from the Toolroom camp with full vocals from Angie Brown & Trix plus a video.

A successful year on the international level saw demand for two full tours of Australia tying in with the Hoxton’s enormous release, ‘Wherever’ a collaboration with the Stafford Brothers signed to Ministry of Sound. The track climbed to the top of the Aria club charts reaching number 2 and staying in for over 20 weeks whilst keeping in the top 20 of the physical sale charts. The rest of the year was literally nonstop in the tour schedule as the guys clocked up the air miles around China, Thailand, Dubai, Brazil, Russia, most European countries and the never ending UK motorway miles culminating in a secret show for Nokia playing alongside Kissy Sell Out.

The coming together of great minds stems back to when the pair created one of the UK’s biggest and most successful independent dance music distribution companies – Essential Direct. “We both worked for a record distribution company years ago before we set up our own company “Essential Direct”. This led to us building a studio to fuel the distribution with our own exclusive productions and in turn gave birth to the Hoxton Whores as well as various other Pseudonyms.” (HW). The Hoxtons have sold an astonishing number of records worldwide (over half a million) with their music fronting huge branded promotional campaigns worldwide (including Virgin, 2009), whilst their singles have been signed to major labels creating super club hits. Videos have seen MTV airplay with singles becoming daytime radio playlisted & hitting top of the physical, download and club charts.

Never playing the same set twice, the Hoxtons DJ performance guarantees two hours of solid house music with a twist of fun and masses of energy. In their own words... “We play House Music in all its forms. A mixture of everything from Tech to Progressive, Minimal to Tribal, Vocal to Uplifting... As long as we’re rocking the floor we’ll stick with it.” (HW). In fact the Hoxtons never plan their sets and in ten years have never played the same set twice. Expect arms in the air and lots of jumping with the Hoxton’s uncanny knack for whipping any audience into a complete frenzy. Whether it’s from their inability to stand still, or their love of throwing freebies into the crowd they can read a dancefloor to perfection proven from the residencies they have held at some of the best club nights worldwide and in the UK, along with 2 summer residencies at Eden Ibiza. Major gig highlights include headlining the MTV Dance festival in Slovakia (15,000 people), playing Glastonbury UK, headlining the H20 Festival South Africa (15,000 people), Colors Festival Helsinki and Webster Hall NYC…

WhoreHouse label parties are set to make a bigger buzz into 2010 coinciding with the re-launch of the Hoxtons highly successful imprint. Last summer saw WhoreHouse debut in Ibiza with a summer residency at Eden. The event vows to bring the “fun back into clubbing” showcasing brand new material fresh from the Hoxton Studios whilst encouraging guests to dress up in the Burlesque theme.

In 2010 the Hoxtons have some of their strongest productions to date lined up for release. The 2010 remix of “Friday Saturday Love” kicked off a solid release schedule in February closely followed by the release of ‘Chakalaka’ and ‘Staunch’ on the Star 69 imprint in March for Miami WMC. Lost in Ibiza 4 was a monster for the summer and reactions quickly stacked up from the likes of Dubfire (10/10), Adam K & Funkagenda (8/10) for the first round of releases with remixes from the likes of Robbie Rivera & Moguai.
