Black Noise was created in 2009 as an alias for Aquasky to release their 4/4 cut-up house experiments that they had been working on in their lab during 2008 onwards. A remix opportunity arose for Norman Cook and from that Black Noise ended up signing to his record label Southern Fried Records.
Work soon started on the debut EP (titled EP: 1) featuring Nick Thayer and a soon to be discovered Miami band by the name of Wizard Sleeve. Lex One from Wizard Sleeve was Aquasky’s tour manager on visits to Florida, so it was decided that a track with his band was a necessary for the first EP. The EP was a great success, featuring four tracks and a remix by Andy George. Support came from Lee Mortimer, Laidback Luke, Kissy Sellout, MSTRKRFT, A1 Bassline, Steve Aoki and many, many more. Not wanting to waste time EP: 2 was soon started featuring again Lex One and also the LA rapper Murs (Definitive Jux) recording the tracks ‘Jackin My Fresh’ and ‘Looking Fly’ respectively. ‘Jackin My Fresh’ had a video created for it, notching over 100k youtube hits within a month of it going live and also personally blogged on his site by none other than Kanye West! ‘Looking Fly’ also featured another guest on the chorus who remains top secret to this day. No more can be said for fear of a Black Eye. The sound of Black Noise was reaching far and wide!!!
Then followed the remixes for an impressive collection of artists such as Diplo, Don Diablo, The Futureheads, 2 mixes for Crookers, Laidback Luke, Sidney Sampson, Trevor Loveys & Sinden, Will Bailey, Rhythm Section, Tonka, The Young Punx, Engine Earz, Tom Piper, Tommie Sunshine, Nick Thayer, HeavyFeet and more...
Whilst all this was going on Black Noise were working behind the scenes with their mates The Cut-Up Boys (made infamous on Ministry Of Sound for their chart topping Mash Up series). Ministry had just signed Sidney Sampson’s ‘Riverside’ track to their label and needed a vocal to take it into the charts. The Cut-Up boys experimented with the Wizard Sleeve track from EP: 1 (‘Me Plus You’) and a hit was created. Over the course of the summer of 2009 the track was fine tuned between Miami and Bournemouth. A video was shot in October of that year and in January 2010 Sidney Sampson featuring Wizard Sleeve ‘Riverside (Lets Go!)’ was released and climbed to Number 2 in the UK charts, just missing Gold but collecting a Silver Disc for its troubles (385,000 sales to date and 15,000 sales short of Gold!) They also have a hand in the next Soho Spiv release on Roger Sanchez’s Stealth label and have been producing tracks for Mikill Pane alongside Jake Gosling.
Soon the country were whistling and signing the lyrics and tune and the track appeared across the TV and radio including Harry Hill, Eastenders and The X Factor!
Over the past 12 months Black Noise have been working closely with Wizard Sleeve on their debut album and also splitting their time with their Mr.Hyde counterpart Aquasky!!! Alongside that they have been busy creating their ‘Warehouse’ sample pack for the sample pack kings Loopmasters under a sub-label titled Monster Sounds. The guys have new EPs signed up with Lee Mortimer’s Wearhouse label and their own Passenger Records alongside collaborations with Lee Mortimer and Kelevra as well as DJing their unique blend of rather rowdy cut up house around the world in conjunction with their agents Ideal DJs.
Ramp up the bass and start a little fun – Black Noise are hitting HEAVY!!!
