To have the world’s best DJs and producers play your record is no mean feat. How’s this for an impressive fan base? Moby, Armand, Tiesto and Guetta. Just to name a few of the mixmeisters who have played Micha Moor’s electro house single 'Space'. Indeed the track shot into the stratosphere of club culture, reaching number one on all the relevant international dance charts and topping Germany's Beatport listing for weeks running.
Micha Moor’s followup singles 'Close Your Eyes', 'Tonight' and 'Learn To Fly' were also chart favourites, each nestling nicely in the German top ten and burning dancefloors the globe over.
Not only with his singles, but also with his remixes Moor keeps the banging house coming, such as his remix of The Beat thiefs & Suzee X featuring Peyton’s 'Feeling Nina', quickly tagged 'hot download' in Roger Sanchez’s weekly radio show 'Release Yourself'.
Other remixes you're bound to have heard in clubland include Culcha Candela´s 'Ey DJ', MYPD's 'You're Not Alone', and Niels van Gogh's ethereal 'Dreamer'. Moor's latest strike 'Break My World', for Israel-based outfit, Epiphony, is going to be a big one for the dancefloors again. Early support comes along from well known names like Bob Sinclar, Mischa Daniels, Patric La Funk, EDX and Jean Elan.
Furthermore, Micha Moor is an internationally renowned DJ, forever choosing new courses in his DJ sets, and boasting a technique not two, but three CD decks. During the past years he has toured Australia, Brazil, Portugal, Russia, Croatia, Indonesia, Israel, Columbia, Tunesia, France and Greece several times over. And he's set to do them all again soon.
We can expect to hear a lot from this talented guy and are looking forward to his upcoming releases. Watch this, yes, Space.

DEADMAU5

Joel Zimmerman doesn’t like being called a DJ. The dance music phenomenon from Toronto, better known as deadmau5, rolls his eyes at the description which he sees as a hopelessly outdated way of describing what he does. His sets are closer to live performances as he assembles tracks on the fly using cutting edge computer technology including software that he’s helped to write himself. “There are no CDs involved,” he explains. “It’s a technological orgy up there and I try and keep it more my music than anyone else’s. If people come out to see deadmau5 I want them to hear deadmau5 music.”
Now firmly established as one of the most innovative and popular electronic live acts globally, Deadmau5 has had an outstanding year. His driving foresight is constantly pushing the technological boundaries of his stage show. In May 2010 he unveiled the visual orgy of the cube stage and his highly anticipated L.E.D ‘mau5ehead’. The year climaxed with a 17,000 capacity sell out show at London’s Earls Court. He is the first ever electronic artist to headline the legendary venue. Additionally the dancefloor icon’s multi award winning albums have seen him achieve that rare balance, appealing to both the clubbing cognoscenti and musical masses.
Zimmerman grew up in Niagara Falls, Ontario, near Toronto. As a kid he was obsessed with computers and started making chip tunes as a teenager. “They’re musical compositions made using the chips from old computers,” he explains. Soon, his chip tunes attracted the attention of the Los Angeles nu metal community which resulted in him contributing to Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee’s 1999 album Methods Of Mayhem. The unlikely duo remain friends as well as collaborators; in 2009 they released two electro house singles — Chicken and Redic — under the name W.T.F.?, while they also reunited to play at Miami’s Ultra Music Festival in 2010.
It was around this time that Zimmerman became involved with a low-budget dance music radio show in Niagara Falls called The Party Revolution. “Back then, cutting edge dance music in Niagara Falls meant Babylon Zoo,” he laughs. His job was “technical whizz kid”. In other words, he was the one who knew how to use a computer. “All those guys were interested in was recording two turntables onto a computer and burning off a CD so they could send it the radio station,” he explains. “I learnt about digital audio and making music on computers and new editing techniques. Every new bit of technology that was released to do with making music, I was on top of it. They were still dinosauring it out playing on turntables.”
When he tried to convince local recording studios that they needed to embrace computers at the turn of the millennium, no-one was interested. “They had an old school approach to recording music. They were really in denial about that kind of thing. It was rocket science to them. They didn’t get it.” Zimmerman did. Eventually he managed to convince a small studio in Toronto to let him install new technology and he helped to record numerous local bands.
While earning his dance music stripes, Zimmerman worked as a web developer. Together with long-term collaborator Steve Duda, Zimmerman writes music making software, including one of the programmes he uses in his live show which he describes it as “like a drum sequencer and sample player on crack”. Evolving music technology’s cutting edge, deadmau5 worked for FL Studios, the company behind Fruity Loops, and contributed to the development of an iPhone app called Touch Mix, which allows you to mix tracks on your mobile.
Zimmerman says that his dream at the time was to be a producer, working on other people’s music. He wrote his own material as a hobby. “IDM (intelligent dance music) like Aphex Twin,” he says. “Nothing to do with the kind of thing I make now.”
His first proper release started out as a joke. It was called This Is The Hook, written together with Duda under the name B.S.O.D. (which stands for ‘blue screen of death’, jargon for the dreaded Windows error message). They took a house beat and added a digitised voice explaining what was happening. They considered it to be a hilarious parody of the formulaic extreme of dance music; what they hadn’t counted on was it going to #1 on the Beatport chart in 2006.
B.S.O.D. crafted an entire album and remixed Hurt by Christina Aguilera, but the money ran out and Duda had to return to L.A. “We may do some more B.S.O.D. stuff in the future,” says Zimmerman. “And we’re still working on software together.”
One of the first things Zimmerman wrote after Duda’s departure was Faxing Berlin. He released it under the moniker deadmau5, using the same name as his one-man web developing business, which itself was named after a dead mouse he found in his computer (the unusual alphanumeric spelling is so it can function as a user name for online chat-rooms). He sent Faxing Berlin to Chris Lake, who passed it to Pete Tong, who played it on his Radio 1 show. The subsequent exposure turned it into one of the biggest records of 2007. The fusion of trance chords and house beats spawned a series of imitators. “It was quite a buzz to know that I’d influenced the course of dance music,” says Zimmerman with a smile. In 2008, deadmau5 was the biggest selling artist on Beatport.
Zimmerman’s next masterstroke was to rework his image. Part of the deadmau5 logo was a grinning mouse head with oversized ears, which he decided to turn into a mask. The first time he wore it at a club, the audience were stunned. “I remember putting it on and looking out of the visor and seeing everyone in utter bewilderment,” he says. “They were like, ‘Who is this guy? Is he for real?’ But they warmed up to it real fast. When the lights came on in the helmet and they started blinking to the beat, the place went crazy.”
He wore a crystal encrusted variant of the mouse head to the Grammy Awards, where he was nominated for Best Remixed Recording for his take on The Longest Road by Californian house producer Morgan Page. “Even though no one knew who I was, as I was walking up the red carpet, all these reporters and TV crews were stopping me. In the end I actually missed the award because it took so long.”
In 2009, he cracked the UK single chart when I Remember hit #14. This was followed by his second artist compilation album, For Lack Of A Better Name, which compiled the best of his single releases from the previous twelve months. The first single to be taken from the album was a new version of his underground hit Ghosts N Stuff, featuring vocals from Pendulum’s Rob Swire, which reached #12.
2010 saw his relentless work schedule continue unabated. In February he performed at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver during the medal presentations. In March, he won three International Dance Music Awards including Best Artist (Solo) and Best American DJ. In April he won Dance Recording of the Year for For Lack of a Better Name at the Juno Awards
In May, his sold out UK tour included three consecutive nights at the Brixton O2 Academy as he continued to redefine dance music in the live arena. Fans were treated to the visual orgy of his new stage show, and of course, the unveiling of his highly anticipated L.E.D ‘mau5ehead’. Like a mutant rodent Frankenstein, it had finally been given life!
In June, deadmau5 won Best Electro House Artist, Best Progressive House Artist, and “most influential, relevant and forward-thinking person in electronic music over the past twelve months” at the Beatport Music Awards. He also performed live at the Electric Daisy Carnival’s Kinetic Fields section in Los Angeles, made his main stage UK festival debut at Creamfields and also embarked upon an exclusive weekly resident for Cream @ Amnesia in Ibiza.
Ever expanding his horizons, deadmau5 also became a playable avatar within the DJ Hero 2 video game, which prompted MTV to commission him as the house artist for the 2010 Video Music Awards. Everything aligned to make 2010 an outstanding year for Zimmerman and it climaxed with a 17,000 capacity sell-out show at London’s Earls Court – making him the first ever electronic artist to headline the legendary venue.
deadmau5’s dizzying upward trajectory continues in 2011 with the news that he will headline his first ever outdoor UK show at London’s Victoria Park in June. A dancefloor icon, deadmau5 has made dance music exciting again.

LAIDBACK LUKE

Laidback Luke (a.k.a Luke van Scheppingen) is laidback about everything except music. Named best producer of 2008 by such qualified house maestros as David Guetta, Martin Solveig and Roger Sanchez, and landing an impressive #17 – in DJ magazine’s Top 100 DJs Poll, it’s clear that Holland’s homeboy is on the rise like never before. It’s why he’s been bustin’ up bassbins from the Americas to Ibiza. Why he was selected to ignite the Stealth Live! CD series with a perfect club mix. Why his party, Super You&Me, is such a winner. Why he was snapped up for a weekly mix show by French station Radio FG. And why he was invited by the UK’s Pete Tong to complete an Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1. Sure it’s been a long time coming (over a decade now) but Luke’s stratospheric success befits his world-beating talents and is ripe to reach new levels of hotness in 2011!
Laidback Luke (Luke van Scheppingen) was born in Manila, Philippines, but grew up in the Netherlands. He loved guitars, graffiti, hip-hop and house, and soon found a mentor in DJ/producer Dobre (The Good Men, Chocolate Puma). Luke was just a teenager when he began producing music, taking the ‘laid back’ tag from Snoop Dogg’s ‘Gin & Juice’. Yet by 1995 he was putting out tracks; and from 96 he was remixing for established artists like Green Velvet, Victor Calderone and Junior Sanchez, in addition to DJing professionally. The thriller from Manila proved to be a natural born killer behind the decks. Once beating a Dutch DMC champ in battle, Luke got to show the world how he rolls with CDJs 'n' EFX: rinsing every mix, building energy, skilfully fusing an array of old + new skool flavours, edits, bootlegs and acappellas into a slick signature style.
He even released an album, Psyched U, in 1999. But it wasn’t until Virgin signed Luke’s seminal single 'Rocking With The Best' and released his 2002 album, Electronic Satisfaction, that his profile really soared. Luke’s Dance Valley anthem, 'We Can Not Get Enough', then blew up as a chart hit. He also mixed his first compilation album, 'Windmill Skill'. His discography was therefore looking seriously prolific as he remixed Daft Punk (who were a huge early influence), Murk, Oliver Lieb and Tom Stephan. And to up the output in 2004, Luke introduced his own label, Mixmash Records.
After forming an alliance with the Swedish House Mafia, Luke remixed 'Sexy F**k' for Steve Angello’s label Size in 2006, and with Angello produced 'Otherwize Then' for Sebastian Ingrosso’s label Refune. These were massive, marking the start of what would become an annual tradition of working with the Swedes. In 2007 Luke also joined Axwell, Ingrosso & Angello for the super-sized club banger 'Get Dumb', while his other tracks exploded on Size and Stealth. Turning back to Mixmash, he then revitalised his label with ‘Rocking With The Best 2007’, before showcasing a deeper sound on the Afterdark Vol. 3 mix for Stealth alongside label honcho Roger Sanchez. He was really throwing it down, plus his new residency at Amsterdam’s club Paradiso – Laidback Luke presents Super You&Me – was well ‘n’ truly poppin’.
Luke continued to rise up in 2008, releasing five tracks, 18 remixes and spinning almost 200 DJ sets in less than 12 months. Going all out for his Essential Mix, he reworked, using his own vocals, a Daft Punk classic, resulting in a personal homage to ‘Teachers’. He sampled his vocals on ‘Break Down The House’, too. This was unleashed on Mixmash, as was Steve Angello & Luke’s ‘Be’ and Luke & Roman Salzger’s ‘Generation Noise’. Another big Mixmash smash came from Luke working with Kanye West’s tour DJ A-Trak for ‘Shake It Down’, which was earmarked as an Essential New Tune by Pete Tong. Others making the Essential New Tune grade this year included Luke’s remix of Underworld’s ‘Ring Road’ and his Chromeo ‘Fancy Footwork’ remix. This was a year that also saw Luke make an enormous impact on the party island of Ibiza. After playing at Amnesia, Pacha and Eden, he produced/remixed every track on his Ibiza Closing Party cover-mount mix for Mixmag. He then ended the year with the mash-up anthem ‘Show Me Love’/‘Be’ by Steve Angello & Luke featuring Robin S, which entered the Buzz Chart at # 1 and Cool Cuts Chart at # 2.
More club-shaking times lie ahead for Luke with his non-stop DJ schedule, studio collaborations including David Guetta, and that all-important third solo album on the horizon… At this point, scrolling through his achievements may be exhausting enough, but imagine living that diary/discography. His secret? Well, besides being a nighttime superhero, a clue is in the martial arts that he practises. Yes, Luke has good ‘kung fu’, always keeping an ear to the ground while his music surges skywards!

CHRIS LAKE

For the past five years, Chris Lake has been living the dream. As a DJ he’s travelled the globe. As a producer, he’s topped industry charts over and over again. As a lover of music, he continues to chase down the freshest beats around. Simply put, he’s become one of the great DJ/ Producers of the modern world.
In 2009 Chris turned to the Americas with the intention of winning over two of 'the' musically cultured continents. Two Billboard Dance chart airplay number 1’s and multiple tours, have ensured that from Vancouver to Rio, NYC to Miami… the sound of Chris Lake has travelled far and wide, and is now embraced with loving arms, no matter what the city.
The question is, what is the sound of Chris Lake? Yes, he is known for his musical crossovers, and based on the success of 'Changes', ‘La Tromba’, ‘Only One’ and ‘If You Knew’, why not? The latter, taking the number one spot in the Music Week, Buzz and Cool Cuts charts, while the accompanying music video was praised by MTV and broke into its Top 5 weekly chart.
As a DJ his vibe is very different, always enjoying the darker and deeper side of electronic music, yet still fusing in cheeky edits and homemade tracks, just so the dance floor knows it’s the Chris Lake experience and one to be savored.
2010 kicked off with a Michael Woods remix of his collaboration with good friend Deadmau5 ‘I Said’ taking Pete Tong’s first ‘Essential New Tune of the decade.’ That was to be just the beginning… further works with Michael Woods on Dominos and another BBC Radio 1 hit, this time with Nelski on Minimal Life - all peaking with his Lake & Lys album 'Cross the Line', launched mid way through his residency at Cream Ibiza with Deadmau5 and Friends. The year ended in fine style, Chris and Marco, once again ripping up a re-edit, this time Nightrider's 'Hey' got the treatment - another Buzz Chart No.1 for the guys.
The year to come promises a massive America tour, an excited move to LA and much much more music!
Chris Lake is….? The word ‘accomplished’ springs to mind. Now it’s up to us to sit back and enjoy the pleasure of watching as his attitude towards music matures and develops… who knows what’s yet to come…

NORMAN DORAY

Thanks to his parents, Norman Doray grew up listening to music. Deeply influenced by the likes of Bob Sinclar; Daft Punk, Norman was quickly attracted to turntables and Djing. He started spinning in 2002 in several clubs near his hometown in the west of France, and quickly earned residency in 2003, in a club in Lille.
A year and a half later Norman was on the move, playing in clubs throughout France and abroad, while making his first steps production-wise. His first track was released in the spring of 2006 'In The Name Of Love', a collab with friend Pierre De La Touche, on the German label 'Starfunk Records'. Norman added Arno Cost to the production team and formed the trio 'The Freshmakers'.
Under that name, Norman’s second track 'Let You Go' was released in 2006 on Serial Records. 'Let You Go' was considered as THE track of Summer 2006 in France, not only highly charted on radios such as Radio FG, Fun Radio, Contact FM, but also quickly reached No.1 in the club charts, and camped there for 6 weeks.
On the tail of that success, The Freshmakers were asked to remix 3 tracks: Da Sushiman - 'In & Out' (Ledge Music); Serial Crew - 'Make Your Own Kind Of Music' (Serial Records); Rilod - 'Thriller' (Nice Music), and at the beginning of 2007 went on to remix the huge hit Sunfreakz 'Counting Down The Days' and Antoine Clamaran’s blockbuster track 'Give Some Love'. Norman then solo remixed 'Soul Heaven' by Henrik B, for Joia Records.
Norman Doray's first solo production and summer sounding "Jetlag" was not far behind. Released in May 2007 on Serial Records. Radio FG wanted Norman as DJ resident in September '07 and he has had his slot there ever since, a one hour floor stompin' mix show every week. Before 2007 ended, Norman teamed up again with Arno Cost and produced the now legendary 'Apocalypse'. This track put both Norman and Arno on the Worldwide dance map, and gave to Norman his first Essential New Tune on Pete Tong's show.
Thanks to the success of this anthem, Norman moved on to remix tracks such as 'Humanoidz' by Tom de Neef & Laidback Luke (Jsquad), 'Delirious' by David Guetta (Virgin), 'Baba O Riley' by Cube Guys (Ministry Of Sound), '24H' by Seamus Haji (Big Love) and 'Kalle' by Zoo Brazil (Joia), all played by the biggest names on the scene. Along with these projects, 'The Freshmakers' trio produced their second single 'Miracle', with a massive remix by Mischa Daniels.
In the summer of 2008, Norman Doray was chosen by David Guetta to play 'F*** Me I'm Famous' in Ibiza. Peaktime summer clubbing frenzy. Norman Doray's second solo single 'Krystal' was released at the end of September '08, directly on CR2, Serial Records and We Play, directly followed by a massive collaboration with Tristan Garner called 'Last Forever', which was his second Essential New Tune. Pete played it more than 10 times in his show. This track was one of the biggest club tracks of 2009.
Always spinning, always producing, Norman never stops. 2009 was a big year for him, he remixed; Those Usual Suspects – 'Shadows' (Ministry Of Sound), David Guetta Ft. Kelly Rowland – 'When Love takes Over' and above all Mark Brown Vs The Face – 'Needin u'. This track became one of Ibiza's most spun tracks of 2009. End of April saw Norman collaborate with the talented Swedish producer Albin Myers to create the track 'Drink N' Dial'.
During the summer of '09 Norman played 'F*** Me I'm Famous', 'The Dark Forest' (with the Swedish House Mafia), Papaya club (Croatia), Warehouse Tokyo, Set Club Miami and Sankeys Manchester, to name just a few.
2010 was a big year for Norman, we've seen him release the massive dance floor bombs 'Tobita' which was Essential New Tune in Pete Tong Show, followed by 'Chase The Sun' with David Tort, which reached No.2 on Beatport for 3 weeks. He also did his own remix of Dirty South's 'Phazing' and was asked by Atlantic records to remix Toni Braxton's 'Make My Heart'. He is also on fire with some forthcoming tracks: 'Home' on Defected and 'Tweet it' on Size (Steve Angello's Label).
Outside of the studio, Norman's also had a very busy year touring the globe, highlights including: Miami WMC (10 gigs in one week!), playing Pacha Ibiza for both David Guetta and The Swedish House Mafia, a Brazilian, Indian, Australian and a Japanese tour, gigs at the World's No1 club Sankeys in Manchester and festival sets at: Sunburn Festival (Goa), The Sunset Festival (UK) and Tomorrowland (BE).
Norman is also resident at David Guetta's night: F*** Me I'm Famous all over the world and performed in venues like Mansion in Miami or Zenith concert hall in Paris.
